Privacy Policy
Our approach in one line
We collect the minimum needed to run the service, we do not sell it, and you can ask us to delete it. That is the whole policy — the detail below is the specifics.
What we store
Account data
- Username — the public handle your links and comments are attributed to.
- Email address — used to sign in, to send password resets and important service notices. Never displayed publicly.
- Password — stored only as a salted hash. We cannot read your password, and neither can anyone who obtains the database.
Content you create
Links you submit (title, URL, description, tags, category), your comments, your votes, your favourites, and the profile information attached to them. This is content you have chosen to publish, so it is visible to other users.
Usage and analytics data
To understand how the site is used and to show aggregate trends, we record anonymous first-party usage data: which pages were viewed, when, referrer information where the browser provides it, and a pseudonymous random identifier stored in your browsers local storage to group a sessions page views together.
What we do not collect: we do not use browser geolocation, we do not collect precise coordinates, and we do not build advertising profiles or cross-site trackers.
Server logs
Standard web server logs may include your IP address, user agent, requested URL and timestamp. These are used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing errors, and are retained for a limited period.
Why we store it
- To create and secure your account.
- To display your public links, comments and votes, because that is the product.
- To detect spam, abuse and copyright complaints so we can act on them.
- To understand aggregate usage so we can improve the site.
- To comply with legal obligations, including valid copyright complaints.
Cookies and local storage
- Session cookie — required to keep you signed in. It is a strictly necessary cookie and does not require consent.
- Local storage identifier — a pseudonymous ID used to group your page views into a session. It contains no personal information and can be removed by clearing your browser storage.
- No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set by us.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your data. We share it only with service providers who host the site and deliver email on our behalf, and only to the extent needed for them to do so — they are required not to use it for their own purposes.
We will disclose data if legally compelled by a valid court order or competent authority. If we receive a copyright complaint about content you posted, the relevant information is shared with the complainant as part of resolving it.
How long we keep it
- Account data — while your account exists, then deleted shortly after you close it.
- Analytics data — retained for a limited rolling period and then aggregated or deleted.
- Server logs — retained for a limited period for security purposes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to processing. You can edit your profile and content yourself; for anything else, email us and we will action it.
You can request account and data deletion at any time by writing to contact@socialbookmarkingadda.com. We will remove your account and associated personal data, except where retention is legally required — for example, records needed to resolve an active abuse or copyright matter.
Security
We use HTTPS, hash passwords with a modern salted algorithm, and keep access to personal data limited to what the service requires. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat any suspected breach as a reason to act quickly and to tell affected users.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. Material changes will be reflected in the last updated date, and we will contact users directly for significant changes.
